Brian Portnoy, CFA, is the founder of Shaping Wealth, a learning technology company focused on promoting financial wellbeing. Shaping Wealth delivers applied behavioral finance to financial advisors, corporations, and educational institutions in order to positively impact the lives of their clients and constituents. His three investment books won him acclaim as an expert in simplifying the complex world of money. His books include The Investor’s Paradox: The Power of Simplicity in a World of Overwhelming Choice; The Geometry of Wealth: How to Shape a Life of Money and Meaning; and How I Invest My Money: Finance Experts Reveal How They Save, Spend, and Invest, which is co-edited with Joshua Brown.

Previously, he was Vice President and Director of Investment Education at Virtus Investment Partners and Head of Education for Magnetar Capital, where he directed thought leadership and served on the steering committee for financial literacy initiatives. He spent the previous 25 years as an educator, investor, and strategist.

Brian holds a doctorate from the University of Chicago and an undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. He also is a CFAⓇ charterholder.
