Better decisions lead to better lives and a better society.

David E. Kanter, Ph.D.

Director of Education

David E. Kanter, Ph.D., is the Director of Education for the Alliance for Decision Education. David leads the Alliance's efforts to bring Decision Education to all middle and high school students. His favorite part of the work is dreaming up and realizing bold new ideas, but testing early and often with real learners. Prior to joining the Alliance, David had 20+ years of experience in the field, as a Learning Sciences and an Education faculty member at Northwestern and Temple Universities, respectively, as the founding director of a learning R&D center, as a researcher in EdTech (including Amplify and Google), and most recently as Chief Academic Officer at Calvert Education where he built and studied digital curricula for virtual schools. David volunteers on the board of the American Friends of the Israel National Museum of Science and as a mentor with the StartEd EdTech incubator.

David is an alum of the Noyce Leadership Institute, an executive leadership program to develop the next generation of leaders in informal learning. He holds Bachelors degrees in both Engineering and Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Outside of work, David loves to cook, do art, and (sometimes successfully) fix things around the house. He lives in Bethesda, MD with his wife, Lindsay, and their young daughter and son.
